More than 80% of Armenian users of social networks prefer Odnoklassniki

YEREVAN, June 22. /ARKA/. Alexander Izryadnov, the marketing and strategic communication director of Mail. Ru Group’s business division, speaking Friday at a news conference in Yerevan said referring to the results of the study Alternative Information Resources 2011 that more than 80% of Armenian users of social networks prefer Odnoklassniki that belongs to Mail.Ru Group.

He said that the number of this network’s visitors grew 30% in 2011. More than 787,000 people in Armenia visit Odnoklassniki every day and 1.4 million every month, and the number of visitors is constantly growing. Some 35% of them prefer to chat with their friends by mobile phones by downloading m.odnoklassniki.ru mobile version.

“According to a study conducted by GfK, one of the largest marketing studies company in Europe, Odnoklassniki is the most popular social network in Armenia in 2012,” Izryadnov said. “Of course, Facebook is the world leader, but not in Armenia – it has 150,000 users every day in the country while Odnoklassniki has 787, 000.”

Explaining the popularity of Odnoklassniki in Armenia, Izryadnov said that this social network provides users with the opportunity of emotional, warm, friendly and safe communication, including online entertainment, while Facebook is rather a platform for working communication, exchange of political and ideological views.

Presenting other indicators on Armenia, he said that 60% of the total number of Odnoklassniki visitors are women and 40% are men, in Armenia 60% of the social network users are men and 40% are women.

Some 35% of Odnoklassniki users are people whose age ranges between 18 and 24, 28% are 25-to-35-year-old people, 20% are 35-to-45-year-old people, 10% age at up to 18 and 7% above 45.
Social games are very popular among Armenian users. May’s data show that 860,000 Armenian users play social games.

This social network is used in 229 countries. The only overseas territory from which not a single visit has been recorded is Pitcairn Islands.

In late April, representatives of the social network announced the start of localization of the resource in Uzbekistan. Odnoklassniki will be localized also in Georgia and Moldova this year.

Statistical data show that about 1 million users of this social network live in the United States. Some 80% of Australia’s Russian speaking population use Odnoklassniki.

Some 61 people have visited the network from North Korea, one from Vatican, 12 from Cook Island, 494 from Madagascar and seven from Samui.

According to LiveInternet statistical service, 29 million visit Odnoklassniki every day. For comparison, the daily number of VKontakte visitors is 33 million.

Odnoklassniki social network had 87.5 million registered users in March 2012. The number of Facebook users exceeds 900 million. -0---
