Armenian regulators approve sale of MTS-Armenia operator to Cyprus-registered company
YEREVAN, November 13. /ARKA/. MTS-Armenia telecom operator (trading as Viva-MTS) on November 3 formally asked for Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission’s (PSRC) permission to sell its shares.
PSRC said the potential buyer is a Cyprus-registered Fedilco Group Limited, which wishes to acquire 100% of shares of MTS-Armenia from another Cyprus-registered Aramayo Investments Limited.
The PSRC said in view of the fact that MTS-Armenia and its shareholders belong to the Russian PJSC Mobile Telesystems (registered in Russia), when this transaction is finalized, MTS-Armenia will no longer be part of MTS Group..
On November 9 the Ministry of Hi-Tech Industry said it had no objections to the conclusion of this transaction, saying also that the National Security Service of Armenia had no f objections either.
The PSRC said it would consider the application on November 15.
Earlier, in April 2023, Armenia’s Commission for Protection of Competition (CPC) prohibited the sale of the operator’s shares to Fedilco Group Limited. The application to change the owner of MTS Armenia was also rejected by the PSRC, becaue 'it was inconsistent with the state interests and national security of the country.'
