UCom acquires Interactive tv
YEREVAN, July 11. /ARKA/. Universal Communications (UCom) provider said it will acquire 100 percent of Interactive TV. Ashot Barseghyan, UCom’s marketing director, said this will be the third acquisition of the Armenian provider since September 2011. In early September last year the company announced a takeover of ISP Netsys without disclosing details of the transaction. A month later UCom acquired all shares of the Armenian iCON Communications provider.
"Today Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission has approved the deal, and now it must go through the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition," Barseghyan said.
He said the deal will be finalized very soon to allow UCom to further diversify the range of its TV services. "UCom provides IP TV, while Interactive TV is a cable television provider with a different target audience," said Barseghyan.
He added that the company intends to develop cable television in Armenia, to expand the range of broadcasting and the range of services. Barseghyan also stressed that the transaction will not affect the share of Ucom at Internet services market.
Universal Communications was founded in 2007 and is engaged in providing telecommunications services. With the assistance of Ericsson, the company created a broadband network that covers the capital of Armenia Yerevan, providing Internet services, IP-TV and fixed telephony. Interactive TV Ltd was founded in 2006 and is the first company in Yerevan providing cable TV services. -0-
