All-Armenian Armrobotics competition starts in Yerevan
YEREVAN, December 16. /ARKA/. An all-Armenian open robot competition, Armrobotics, has started in Yerevan.
Eleven teams from Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) and Iran (each team consisting of four students and one instructor) are participating in the competition.
Over 70% of the participants are representatives of the State Engineering University of Armenia, Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University (RAU), European Regional Educational Academy (EREA) and other higher schools.
Karen Vardanyan, CEO, Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE), pointed out that the purpose of the competition is to restore the traditions of robotics in Armenia.
“Armenia needs robotics, and the restoration of traditions will facilitate the settlement of the issue,” Vardanyan said.
He pointed out the importance of fail-safe designs and new ideas to enable students to acquire teamwork skills, which will serve as a prototype for new companies.
Chief of the Engineers Department, RA Ministry of Defense, Major-General Vostanik Adoyan pointed out that robotics can be used in the defense sphere in the future.
“I think Armenian students’ products can be used in the defense sphere, particularly in mine clearing,” Adoyan said.
Zhenya Azizyan, Head of the High and Information Technologies Department, RA Ministry of Economy, pointed out the need for arranging annual competitions to enable Armenian students and designers to participate in similar international competitions in the future.
The registration of the applicants was announced lasted from July 5 to August 1. The Hoomet company (Iran) provided the teams with the components.
The robots participating in the competition are to have limited dimensions: 18cm long, 18cm wide and 27cm high.
The programmed instruction for the robots is routing message, a square of 2x2. The robots are to accomplish their tasks making stops, signals and turns.
The first three winners will receive 300,000 AMD, 200,000 AMD and 100,000 AMD respectively. The prizes “Best technical solution” and “Best creative solution” are intended for the participants.
The competition has been organized by the UITE and General Union of Armenian Universities of Teheran, with the assistance of the RA Ministry of Economy and RA Ministry of Defense.
Among the technical sponsors are Hoomet, D-link, Microsoft Armenia office, National Instruments, Virage Logic.
