“COMSTAR” Launched Pilot Zone of Mobile Wimax in Tsakhkadzor (Armenia)

YEREVAN, October 26. /ARKA/. “COMSTAR – United TeleSystems” (Open JSC “COMSTAR), the largest operator of integrated telecommunication services in Russia and CIS announces that CJSC “Cornet-AM” (Armenian affiliate of “COMSTAR-OTC ”) started pilot operation of WiMAX network in the resort Tsakhkadzor providing services of wireless access to Internet with “jointless” transfer of network user from one base station to another.

OmniMAX solution is used in the project allowing to render broad-band wireless access for different types of final fixed and mobile users. OmniMAX works in frequency diapason 2.5-2.7 GHz and 3.4-3.8 GHz.

The main task of the current project is testing of OmniMAX equipment in diapason of frequencies 3.6-3.8 GHz under the disposal of “Cornet-AM”. In successful finalization of pilot project, the company will have access to alternative equipment for further development of the network.

“WiMAX is the first technology of broad-band access in Armenia through which “Cornet-AM” has implemented its main development concept - unified and available Internet access in the territory of Armenia. WiMAX “Cornet-AM” became a kind of catalyzer of demand and broad-band wireless access in Armenia providing reliable connection with remote areas of the country. I am confident that WiMAX will occupy adequate place in the services market for which quality, reliability and individual approach is very important”, said General Director of CJSC “Cornet-AM” Boris Demirkhanyan. 　

Sales Vice-President of Open JSC “Sitronix” Alexander Krasovski said that during the last years telecommunication business-direction actively develops WiMAX solutions.

“High productivity, correspondence to international standards and flexible approach to the price of OmniMAX equipment are in demand in Russia and CIS where the market of broad-band wireless data transfer is actively developing”, said Krasovski.

For the implementation of the project OmniMAX is used. Its developer and producer is INTRACOM TELECOM – affiliate of Open JSC “SITRONIX”. All the works of equipment installation, organization of connection canals and technical assistance are provided by the company “INTRACOM Armenia” in Armenia.

“Cornet-AM” first appeared in Armenia in 2008 for the implementation of national scale network, basing its solutions on technologies of broad-band wireless access WiMAX. It provides services in Yerevan and 19 large cities of Armenia (Gyumri, Vanadzor, Abovyan, Ashtarak, Artashat, Echmiadzin, Armavir, Goris, Kapan, Spitak, Alaverdi, Stepanavan, Ijevan, Dilijan, Sevan, Gavar, Charentsavan, Hrazdan and Kajaran). Capacities of technologies provide access of services in the radius of 20 km from the mentioned cities. --0—
