Fifth national open computer games championship will be held on June 22-26
YEREVAN, June 20. / ARKA /. The fifth national open computer games championship will be held on June 22-26, Edgar Sahakian, the president of the National Cybersport Professional League, said to a news conference today at Novosti Armenia international press center.
He said the national competition is a qualifying round for the World Computer Games (WCG) championship that was launched in 2000 as the largest game tournament in the world. Under WCG regulations, qualifying rounds are to be held in each country wishing to participate in the world competition. Armenia’s national selection round will be held in Yerevan June 22- 26. FIFA 2011 and StarCraft 2 games have been included on the list of official games and Counter-Strike 1.6 and WarCraft 3 Dota on the list of unofficial games.
Winners of national contests this year will compete at the International World Cyber Games tournament from 8 to 11 December in the city of Pusan, Korea.
According to Sahakian, the total prize fund of the Armenian national stage is 3.6 million drams that will be divided among the winners of the first three places in all the four game categories.
ArmenTel telecommunications company will provide online Internet broadcast of the Armenian national championship.
The registration of participants for Armenian national stage is available on the official website of the championship at www.wcg.am. Edgar Sahakian said some 260 people have already registered, 2.5 times more than in 2010, stressing that the youngest is 11 years old.
In addition to the main game disciplines, competition will be held in extra nominations -Amateur Painter, Amateur Photographer and Touch Typing for girls. The organizer of the championship is the National Cybersport Professional League. -0-
