Construction of ring accelerator costing 60 million euro to start in mid 2012 in Armenia
YEREVAN, October 24. /ARKA/. Construction of ring accelerator in the frames of CANDLE (Center for the Advancement of Natural Discoveries using Light Emission) project costing 60 million euro will start in mid 2012, said the Head of State Committee of he Armenian Education and Science Ministry Samvel Harutyunyan to the journalists on Monday.
It is expected that in having relevant funding for the main ring accelerator the construction will be finished in 2016.
“Construction works of linear accelerator AREAL are planned to finish by the end of 2012 and put into operation in spring 2013”, said Harutyunyan.
Total cost of the construction project of linear accelerator which will be implemented by the plan of German electronic synchrotron DESY is 5 million euro, of which equipment costing 3 million euro has already been provided by the German side.
Harutyunyan said that cooperation with relevant technical institutes of Germany, Switzerland and Russia is established which will allow to prepare relevant specialists.
“Launch of the accelerator will allow to make not only synchrotron studies but also scientific research works and significantly promote the development of natural sciences in the country”, he said.
CANDLE (Center for the Advancement of Natural Discoveries using Light Emission) is the source of synchrotron radiation of third generation in Armenia which received the highest rating of authoritative international expert committees. The project will allow to conduct modern fundamental studies in various scientific spheres. According to the data of the experts, the cost of the given accelerator is assessed approximately $100 million. The State is ready to finance 25% of the project cost. --0--
