Armenia’s VivaCell-MTS provides access to 4G/LTE in four towns and most parts of the capital
YEREVAN, March 6. /ARKA/. VivaCell-MTS has launched, for the first time, a 4G/LTE network with theoretical capacity of 150MB/sec and maximum download speed of 50Mb/sec in most parts of Yerevan, as well as in Giumry, Vanadzor, Dilijan, Tsakhkadzor, the company’s press office reported.
General director of the company Ralf Yirikyan and vice president for MTS affiliates abroad Andrey Smelkov took part in the launching ceremony.
Test measurements showed the network can provide a download speed of up to 60Mb/sec and speed of upload of up to 20 Mb/sec, which is much higher than the speed of the advanced 3G networks available in Armenia.
Large scale works enabled VivaCell-MTS installing up-to-date technologies, including an LTEeNodeB station that provides 70% coverage in Yerevan and 100% coverage in Giumry, Vanadzor and Tsakhkadzor and 80% coverage in Dilijan.
For the first time 4G/LTE network was introduced in Armenia in 2010 and provided access for business centers in Yerevan. Today the sole 4G/LTE network of VivaCell-MTS covers about 33% of the territory of Armenia.
General director of VivaCell-MTS Ralf Yirikyan said Armenia is now among a few countries having 4G networks. This means the country became more attractive in terms of telecommunications, he said.
VivaCell_MTS has been operating in Armenia since 2005. Some 80 percent of the company is owned by Russian Mobile Telesystems (MTS) and the rest by Lebanese Fattouche Group.–0--
