FPWC, VivaCell-MTS take part in new equipment testing for Caucasus biodiversity zone monitoring
YEREVAN, August 3. /ARKA/. The Foundation for Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets and VivaCell-MTS Telecommunication Company have taken part in testing photo and video equipment for monitoring a South Caucasus biodiversity preservation zone in Urtsadzor village, Ararat province, the press office of VivaCell-MTS reports.
The territory under protection was expanded from 2,000 to 4,000 hectares in 2015 and new equipment, including drones and highly accurate binoculars, was brought here.
New species that are on the verge of extinction were founds thanks to this equipment. The Caucasus viper, the wild cat and the peregrine were among them.
The results of the monitoring were included in maps of the Geographic Information System (GIS), which allows identifying probable location of all species, their movement routes and preferred habitat.
GIS maps are a very important instrument for analyzing bio variety and one of the most effective methods in the world.
