Internet of Things and AI: 77% of business entities in Armenia provide Internet access to their employees - survey
YEREVAN, November 28. /ARKA/. Some 77% of business entities in Armenia provide Internet access to their employees for practical purposes, according to the findings of a study conducted by the National Statistical Committee.
The highest Internet accessibility of 92% is provided by ICT sector and the lowest (46%) by Water Supply, Drainage, Waste Management and Recycling industry. At the same time, only 28% of business entities provided their employees with modems to connect to mobile Internet.
According to the study, 43% of business entities had their own websites. The highest rate of website use was recorded in ICT sector (64%), as well as in professional, scientific and technical activities (53%) and organization of accommodation and catering (79%).
The use of social media by business entities is at the level of 49%. At the time of the survey in 2023, some 12% of business entities using the Internet were engaged in e-commerce. The highest rate was in accommodation and catering sector (28%) and the lowest in administration and support activities (3%).
Information was exchanged electronically by 17% of businesses, with 37% each using ERP resource planning and customer relationship management (SRM) software applications. Only 9% of business entities used cloud technologies, which were most commonly used in finance or accounting.
The Internet of Things was used by 20% of companies, of which 90% used territory security devices and 24% used energy management systems.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) was used by only 2% of business entities, with the maximum use – of 12% by ICT sector.
International comparison
The study compares Armenia's indicators with those of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania and Denmark.
The Internet access in Denmark is 100%, while in Estonia, Lithuania and Romania it ranges from 93.8% to 96.5%. Armenia's rate is 77%.
The level of social media use is the highest in Denmark - 77.4%, while in other countries, including Armenia, it ranges from 49% to 58%. The exception is Romania (36.1%).
The use of the Internet of Things ranges from 10.5% to 29%. At the same time, in Denmark, as well as in Armenia, it is 20%, and in Latvia and Lithuania 28.4%.
The level of AI usage is the highest in Denmark (23.9%), and the lowest after Armenia (2%) is in Romania (1.4%).
About the study
The National Statistical Committee conducted the survey "On the use of information and telecommunication technologies by business entities and e-commerce" in 2023 in cooperation with the World Bank and NGO Ecoserund within the framework of the EU-funded program Economic Governance, Business Environment and Legal Reforms..
The survey involved 1,974 business entities and was conducted according to the methodology adopted in 2021 by Eurostat. -0-
