Law protecting on-line buyers’ rights to be adopted in Armenia before end of this year
YEREVAN, July 14. /ARKA/. A law protecting on-line buyers’ rights will be adopted in Armenia before the end of this year, Babken Pipoyan, chairman of the Informed and Protected Consumer nongovernmental organization, said Friday at a news conference.
“The development of the package and discussions with concerned parties are under way now,” he said. “The necessity of development of this law was prompted by the growing number of people in Armenia who buy goods via Internet.”
Pipoyan said that the rights of Armenian consumers who make online shopping are absolutely not protected. He called on online buyers to be cautious, to find out what procedures are implied on the website if goods are shoddy, to know whether them can be returned or replaced with others and whether the buyer has to pay for post service if sends them back.
“Don’t pay attention to glowing words on the advertising companies’ websites, since very often the firm itself posts them,” Pipoyan said.
Internet transactions made via plastic cards issued by Armenian and foreign banks over a period between January and May 2014 totaled AMD 10 billion – 18.2% year-on-year growth. The number of transactions grew 38.2% to 609,233. ($1 – AMD 407.69). ---0----
