National Library of Armenia unveils electronic database called "Victory 70"
YEREVAN, May 8. / ARKA /. The National Library of Armenia has unveiled today an electronic database called "Victory 70" that presents materials about World War II and the participation of the Armenian people in it.
Speaking at a news conference, Shogher Voskanyan from the National Libraryб said the electronic database, started a month ago, already contains about 140 publications from journals, books, newspapers, posters and photographs and is being constantly updated.
According to Voskanyan, the database has a large number of materials dedicated to the 89th Armenian Tamanskaya division and the contribution of the Armenian women to the victory.
There are also materials about Russian children evacuated to Armenia from the blockaded Leningrad who found a second home here. All the materials are now in Russian, but the database will be updated by materials in Armenian and other languages.
Of the 2 million Armenians who lived in the Soviet Union at that time 700,000 were drafted to the army, and of them some 314,000 were killed in the battlefields. Some 106 Armenians became heroes of the Soviet Union.
The legendary pilot Nelson Stepanyan and Marshal of the Soviet Union Ivan Bagramyan were awarded the highest title twice. Also 27 Armenians were awarded the Orders of Glory.
About 100 thousand ethnic Armenians fought against fascism in the army of allies and in the Resistance. 0-
