Odnoklassniki launching Armenian version
YEREVAN, June 22. /ARKA/. Russia’s social network Odnoklassniki that belongs to Mail.Ru Group is launching an Armenian version, Alexander Izryadnov,the marketing and strategic communication director of Mail. Ru Group’s business division, said Friday at a news conference in Yerevan.
“According to Armenian mobile operators’ data, Odnoklassniki, Mail.ru, Youtube.com and Google.com are among the country’s top popular websites,” he said. “We see that Internet is getting more accessible across the country and more people use it as a means of communication. Therefore we have done whatever possible to give everybody an opportunity to communicate with friends in their mother tongue.”
He said that localization will be carried out in two stages – a mobile version is already available in Armenian language, and the basic website of this social network will be translated within one month.
Izryadnov said that applications for Android, iOs, Windows Phone, Symbian official platforms will be available soon as well.
He said that all the services of the basic version of Odnoklassniki are available also on its mobile version. Sending messages, publication of statuses, posting assessment of photos are among these services.
The study Alternative Information Resources 2011 showed that more than 80% of Armenian users of social networks prefer Odnoklassniki.
More than 787,000 people in Armenia visit Odnoklassniki every day and the number of visitors is constantly growing.
Some 35% of them prefer to chat with their friends by mobile phones by downloading m.odnoklassniki.ru mobile version.
This social network is used in 229 countries. The only overseas territory from which not a single visit has been recorded is Pitcairn Islands.
In late April, representatives of the social network announced the start of localization of the resource in Uzbekistan. Odnoklassniki will be localized also in Georgia and Moldova this year.
Statistical data show that about 1 million users of this social network live in the United States. Some 80% of Australia’s Russian speaking population use Odnoklassniki.
Some 61 people have visited the network from North Korea, one from Vatican, 12 from Cook Island, 494 from Madagascar and seven from Samui.
According to LiveInternet statistical service, 29 million visit Odnoklassniki every day. For comparison, the daily number of VKontakte visitors is 33 million.
Odnoklassniki social network had 87.5 million registered users in March 2012. The number of Facebook users exceeds 900 million. -0---
