The number of Armenian users attacked by password stealing wares increased by 18% in 2019, Kaspersky lab says
YEREVAN, February 19. /ARКА/. In 2019, the number of Armenian Internet users attacked by password stealing wares increased by 18%, according to a Kaspersky Lab study.
“Besides, the threat of phishing attacks remained urgent in Armenia last year, when attackers try to get users’ personal payment data. From December to January 2019, Kaspersky Lab’s solutions prevented an average of 20,000 attempts of Armenian users' switch to fraudulent sites a month," the study said.
According to the study, phishers closely monitor the news and take advantage of the general public’s interest in various major events and celebrities, coming up with lures that look official tricking a person to click on a malicious link or leave personal data.
"The amount of data generated by users is constantly growing, as is their value for attackers who, in particular, sell other people's personal information in closed forums. There are various methods used to gain access to assets, including password theft and phishing ware. If you’ve found that your data from any service has leaked to the network, you should immediately change the password for entering your account,” said Tatyana Sidorina, senior content analyst at Kaspersky Lab.
She also emphasized that there are basic rules, the observance of which helps to reduce the risks from possible leaks and malicious use of data.
To protect confidential information, the expert recommends that users must not click on suspicious links on social networks, instant messengers and mail. They are also required to install a reliable security solution that has the function of checking the account and notifies you if the data is leaking to the network.
In addition, users need to have strong passwords for all their accounts (with at least 12 characters, letters in different case, numbers and special characters) and change them about every three months, as well as store passwords correctly - not write them down on a piece of paper or on the phone, but use special password managers.
If possible, it is advisable to enable two-factor authorization, before installing a software, familiarize oneself with the user agreement - it contains information about how the application will handle personal data. –0--
