The number of computer viruses has surged by 500 times over the last ten years, Evgeny Kaspersky
YEREVAN, November 17. /ARKA/. The number of computer malware has surged by 500 times over the last ten years, Evgeny Kaspersky, chairman and CEO of Kaspersky Lab, said today when speaking to the students and faculty of the National Polytechnic University of Armenia in Yerevan.
"Kaspersky Lab is antivirus and internet security company and our main job is to collect various new Trojans and malware; we collect them, process them and add to the archive of malware. Ten years ago our collection had about half a million of various viruses. According to the results of last year, our collection had 260 million unique examples of viruses, "Kaspersky said.
"When I look at these numbers I realize the magnitude of cyber crimes. There are various organizations that specialize in fighting against these scams, but unfortunately, new cyber criminals appear and this 'business', unfortunately, is booming," Kaspersky said.
He said the growth is proved by the figures about unique attacks, as well as by police investigations and the damage caused by cyber criminals is estimated at tens and hundreds of millions of US dollars.
"The number of new computer malware is increasing. For us it is a huge burden. Now we collect hundreds, thousands and even millions of malicious files a day," Kaspersky said
Kaspersky is on a visit to Armenia to receive the Global Award of the President of the Republic of Armenia for Outstanding Contribution to Humanity through IT (Global IT Award 2015). The awarding ceremony took place on November 17 at the Presidential Palace. -0-
