All communities in Armenia have access to mobile telephony
YEREVAN, February 17. / ARKA /. All urban and rural communities across Armenia have now access to cellular communications, Geviorg Gevorgyan, head of a departmental in charge of telecommunications at Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC), said in an interview with ARKA.
He said last year the PSRC together with mobile operators revealed a total of 18 communities in the country with no access to mobile telephony.
He said following the PSRC distributed these communities among the three telecoms operators obligating them to provide them with cellular coverage and broadband Internet access. He said on January 1, 2014 all these communities had access to mobile telephony.
He said currently only 8.5 % of all communities have access to one operator only, 23% have access to two operators and 68 5% of all communities have access to all the three mobile operators. He said the next move is to make all three mobile operators accessible in all communities.
Armenia has three mobile operator - ArmenTel (trading as Beeline, it is owned fully by Russian VimpelCom ), VivaCell-MTS (a subsidiary of Russian Mobile TeleSystems) and Orange Armenia (a subsidiary of France Telecom). -0-
