Three Russian channels allowed to broadcast in Armenia
YEREVAN, January 15. /ARKA/. Three Russian TV channels are allowed to broadcast in Armenia, the chairman of the National Commission on Television and Radio Tigran Hakobyan said on Friday.
He recalled that a competition had been announced for licenses for 6 broadcast slots for the national coverage and for 9 slots for the coverage in the capital Yerevan.
“However, on December 30, Armenia and Russia signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of public broadcasting, according to which Russian First Channel was given the right to broadcast across Armenia without a license. Two other Russian channels were also awarded the right to broadcast in the capital on the same terms,” Hakobyan said.
Overall, 12 companies had applied for broadcasting licenses, 3 sought only national coverage, and the rest, also the coverage in the capital.
Four TV companies had applied for broadcasting only in the capital. However, on January 8, one private company and the Public Television of Armenia withdrew their applications and will not participate in the competition.
Three TV companies that had applied for coverage in Yerevan received licenses. The other qualified for the national coverage and based on their scores they will receive broadcasting licenses either across the country or in the capital.. The official decision of the Commission will be published later, Hakobyan said. –0--
