Armenia hosts first startup boost weekend
YEREVAN, March 20 / ARKA /. A unique project, called Startup Boost Weekend, was hosted by Armenia for the first time. As part of this project organized by the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University and the American University of Armenia, students had to present innovative ideas developed over the weekend.
"This is the first such event for Armenian students. We hope that it will stimulate the development of IT sector," project organizer Hambardzum Kakhetsyan told the ARKA agency.
He said ten unique ideas were chosen from 40 submitted ones. The students formed teams and developed projects virtually from scratch. Kakhetsyan said that all the ideas proposed by students can turn into successful, profitable start-ups.
"The ideas were quite different -from the wardrobe analyzer and personal stylist for the girls to solutions providing translation of a transliterated text to the Armenian language with 99 percent accuracy. The ideas were so good that the jury did not believe that they were developed in just 2 days," he noted.
The jury awarded the victory to the Bridge team, which proposed development of Internship-service (a service for the selection of trainees for the employer), connecting students who wish to have a practice (Internship) and employers who need good interns.
The winner team will receive $600; the second-placed team will get $400. Both teams will also receive books on how to start a start-up.
The participating teams are given the opportunity to participate in the events to be organized by the innovation center of the American University of Armenia and in another project Sevan Startup Summit (a startup generation project, which will be held in July in the city of Sevan with the support of the Startup Armenia Foundation). -0 -
