ArmenTel company and defense of consumers rights NGO sign cooperation memorandum

YEREVAN, August 7, /ARKA/. ArmenTel telecommunications company and Defense of Consumers Rights non-governmental organization signed today a cooperation memorandum.

As part of the cooperation a set of studies will be conducted and their findings will be handed to the company to help it learn the quality of its services and asses its performance from the perspective of consumers’ rights defense.

The company and the NGO have also agreed to work together towards improvement of the relating legislation. “We are declaring the commencement of cooperation with the civic society and non-governmental organizations dealing with defense of consumers rights. This is going to be a turning point in the history of our company’s development,’ ArmenTel (operating under Beeline brand) Director General Igor Klimko told journalists.

He said the main priority of ArmenTel this year is to improve the quality of services rendered to its clients. According to him, the signing of the memorandum with a non-governmental organization, set up to defend the consumers’ rights, marks another phase of independent and constructive expertise of the company’s services. He added that ArmenTel expects the non-governmental organization to offer unbiased and constructive evaluation of its performance.

“We expect the public at large to help us identify our problems and then we will get down to improving the quality of our services,’ Klimko added.

Abgar Yegoyan, chairman of the Defense of Consumers Rights NGO, said ArmenTel was one of the first companies in Armenia to start cooperation with the civic sector in a bid to improve the defense of consumers’ rights.

“I believe that this partnership will not only benefit consumers but may also become a model of interaction between private sector and civic organizations for the sake of public welfare,’ he said.

The Defense of Consumers Rights non-governmental organization has been active in Armenia for 12 years. Its major goal is to promote provision of quality, safe and ecologically friendly goods and services to Armenian consumers.

ArmenTel ZAO is a subsidiary of Russian VympelCom company, operating under Beeline trade mark. In 2007 April it obtained 100% shares of ArmenTel. -0-
