PM: insufficient infrastructures hobble development of information technologies in Armenia
YEREVAN, September 29./ARKA/. On Tuesday, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, speaking at a special session in Yerevan on Black Sea interaction, said insufficient infrastructures hobble development of information technologies in Armenia.
He said that the government views this problem solution among its top-priority objectives and intends to take necessary steps to put things right.
“Unfortunately, this area faces grave infrastructural problems. Infrastructures meet neither our experts nor science representatives' requirements”, Sargsyan said.
He said that first of all insufficient infrastructures slow down data transmission.
“We have new investment programs that will ensure breakthrough in this area in coming years.”
The premier said he meant chances of a new investor authorized by the government for laying a new fiber cable.
“The capacity of the new investor and the new fiber cable will intensify market competition and drive prices down. This will make internet services in Armenia more available.”
On September 17Armenian government gave its permission to GNC- ALFA Company for laying a fiber cable along the road connecting Armenia with Georgia.
Thanks to the new cable, the country will enjoy an alternative access to Internet, and this will lead to quality improvement.
The company thinks the work will take 18 months. The GNC- ALFA was established in 2007.
The company’s main focuses are construction and exploitation of telecommunication networks and transport network services.
Armenia has two fiber internet providers – ArmeTel Telecommunication Company (Beeline brand) and FiberNet Communications.
GNC Alfa will join them soon.-0---
