Armenian IT companies will help to provide Armenian schools with software and IT content

YEREVAN, April 12. /ARKA/. Armenian companies of IT sphere will help to provide Armenian schools with software and IT content, said Armen Ashotyan, Armenian Minister of Education and Science.

Today unified general education computer system is introduced in Armenia where more than 600 schools are included. Till the end of 2010 State Budget will allocate money for another 300 schools which will be connected to Internet and school network.

The remaining 500 schools will be connected to the system by the credits of World Bank.

“We work with a number of IT companies which suggest programs and content which will allow to use the computer at schools, apply them in education process and provision of quality of learning materials”, he said.

Programs will be implemented not only by the means of the Ministry, but also by the support of a number of companies, particularly Synopsys, Microsoft, etc.

Currently about 644 schools are connected to school computer system. Till the end of 2010 their number will be 940. In 2010 it is planned to allocate about 700 million drams from the budget of Armenia for the provision of schools with computer equipment and Internet connection.

Armenian National Statistic Service informs that currently there are 1475 schools in Armenia.

In 2010 budget expenses for education sphere will be 95.4 billion drams or about 3% of GDP. In 2009 budget expenses were 108 billion drams. ($1 – 396.55 drams). --0—
