Armenia and Norway foreign ministers cancel postage stamp dedicated to Fridtjof Nansen
YEREVAN, November 9. / ARKA /. Armenian foreign minister Edward Nalbandian and his Norwegian opposite number Jonas Gahr Store, cancelled today in Yerevan a postage stamp dedicated to the 150th birthday anniversary of Fridtjof Nansen, the famous polar scientist, diplomat, humanist and a great friend of the Armenian people, the press service of HayPost (Armenian Postal Service), reported.
The ceremony was organized by HayPost Trust Management BV and HayPost company to time it with the visit of Norway’s foreign minister to Yerevan.
The stamps, 40,000 copies, were printed by Canadian Lowe Martin Group. The face value of a stamp is 350 drams. The stamp was designed by Ani Gevorgyan. HayPost said it will continue to issue new stamps to reflect most important Armenian holidays and anniversaries.
Fridtjof Nansen is a Norwegian scholar, social activist and humanist. After the First World War of 1914-18 he was High Commissioner of the League of Nations for Prisoners of War and dealt also with problems of refugees.
He strongly condemned the massacre of Armenians organized by the Ottoman Empire and the government of Young Turks and saved 320,000 Armenians from the genocide, who could find refuge in 52 countries around the world. -0-
