Armenia and Iran look into creating ‘smart city’
YEREVAN, June 30. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan and Mehdi Eliassi, Iranian Vice President for Science and Technology, looked today in Yerevan into the possibility of creating a "smart city" and a Center for High Technologies.
The Armenian Ministry of Economy said Mehdi Eliassi is heading an Iranian delegation that is visiting now Armenia to participate in the Armenian-Iranian business forum.
According to the ministry, Iranian companies show great interest in cooperation with the Armenian side in various spheres of the economy, including industry, construction, agriculture, food, textiles, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment.
"The Iranian side has rich experience in creating high-tech centers in different countries. This in mind, Mehdi Eliassi proposed that a similar center be created in Armenia, where bilateral B2B meetings will be organized and discussions related to the sphere will be held," the ministry said.
The sides also spoke about bilateral cooperation within the free economic zones "Meghri" and "Aras". Taking into account Armenia's membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), the parties discussed the possibilities of organizing joint ventures in various sectors of the economy and exporting finished products to the EEU member countries.
The Iranian side also expressed its readiness to cooperate in equipping medical institutions of Armenia with Iranian equipment. Prospects for cooperation in the field of pharmaceuticals were discussed.
The members of the delegation suggested exploring the possibilities of creating a "smart" city through joint efforts.
The ministry said also that another Armenian-Iranian business forum is to be held in Iran in autumn that will discuss wide range of issues related to the Armenian-Iranian economic cooperation. -0-
