Armenia has the opportunity to monitor flow of water resources through satellites
YEREVAN, November 15. /ARKA/. Armenia has now the opportunity to monitor the flow of water resources through satellites, the press service of the State Committee of Water Resources said following a meeting of its head Arsen Harutyunyan with a World Bank delegation headed by senior water management specialist Winston Yuen.
A senior agriculture specialist at the World Bank's Yerevan Office Arusyak Alaverdyan said the European Space Agency has a good experience in monitoring of the water flows through satellites.
"These services are enjoyed by different countries. This year thanks to the efforts of the World Bank Group, implementing Armenian programs, Armenia was included in the list of countries which can use space satellites free of charge," - she said.
According to Harutyunyan, Armenia’s water management system is in need of reform. In his words, programs to monitor unaccounted water and losses as well as for energy saving are being developed now.
"There should be two priorities for us; first - to get rid of all types of structures with overlapping functions and to ensure fair optimization of the sector. Second - to establish an uninterrupted supply of water for farmers. I am sure if we succeed in these two issues many other problems will automatically be solved", - he said.
In turn, Winston Yuen said that the World Bank appreciates the long-term cooperation with the Armenian government, and especially with the State Committee of Water Resources. He noted also that the Armenian water legislation serves as a model for many other countries. -0--
