Armenia moves one notch up in Global Innovation Index 2017
YEREVAN, June 15. /ARKA/. The Global Innovation Index (GII) 2017, compiled by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) of the United Nations, ranked Armenia 59th among 127 countries, up from the 60th position in the previous index.
The leader of the 2017 ranking is Switzerland, followed by Sweden, the Netherlands, the United States and the United Kingdom. Switzerland topped the rating last year as well. Singapore is located on the seventh line, China - on the 22nd. Togo, Guinea and Yemen are at the bottom of the list. Armenia’s immediate neighbors are Mexico (58th) and India (60th).
Armenia’s regional neighbors Turkey is 43rd, Russia is 45th, Georgia is 68th, Iran is 75th and Azerbaijan is 82nd.
WIPO noted the rise of India as a possible future innovation center in Asia. India, along with Kenya and Vietnam, "outperform their peers" in terms of development, "the compilers said.
The Global Innovation Index has been published since 2007. The GII 2017 surveyed 127 countries which represent together 92.5% of the world’s population and 97.6% of the GDP of the world in current US dollars.
There are 81 data tables for indicators from more than 30 international public and private sources, including 57 that are hard data, 19 composite indicators and 5 survey questions, according to the GII 2017 report. -0-
