Armenia’s antitrust watchdog discusses possible roaming price reduction with EEU colleagues
YEREVAN, March 25. /ARKA/. Armenia’s State Commission for Protection of Economic Competition is discussing possibilities of lowering roaming tariffs within the Eurasian Economic Union with its EEU colleagues, the head of the commission Artak Shaboyan said in the parliament on Tuesday. The antimonopoly council of the Eurasian Economic Commission is planning to elaborate, together with EEU mobile operators, measures to lower roaming tariffs by the end of this year. An action plan is expected to be developed to introduce principles of fair roaming. Apart fr om this, an abolishment of roaming charges within the EEU is being discussed. The respective experience from the EU shows this will be beneficial not only to subscribers, but also to mobile companies due to substantial increase in sales. Shaboyan said his commission is currently studying roaming tariffs together with the Eurasian colleagues. Cases were found wh ere roaming tariffs were dozens of times as high as the ordinary ones, he said. Shaboyan said Armenia proposed to gradually reduce the roaming tariffs closer to the cost price over the next three years. Armenia became a full-fledged EEU member on January 2, 2015. –0--
