Armenia to start introduction of e-health in 2017
YEREVAN, November 7. /ARKA/. According to Armenia’s deputy health minister Samvel Margaryan, beginning from next year the ministry will start the introduction of the so-called e-health (electronic health record sharing system).
He explained that the electronic health record (eHR) is a record in electronic format containing health-related data of an individual (not confined to medical treatment for illness), stored and retrieved by different healthcare providers including doctors and other healthcare professionals for healthcare-related purposes. In his words, it is especially important in cases when immediate medical intervention is needed. Margaryan said it will also enable to increase the sector’s transparency and reduce corruption risks.
He said a pilot eHR program was carried out successfully at medical centers in Goris, Vanadzor and Muratsan hospital in Yerevan.
In the first stage it will cover the government-financed medical assistance. ‘In 2017, the patients will feel the positive aspects of the introduction of this system, as they will not have to undergo repeat tests or examinations", - Margaryan said.
Margaryan could not say how much the shift would cost, saying only they hope to digitize some 80% of the related information by mid 2018.
"We will also begin creating clinical guides. Every disease has its own protocol - the rules of treatment. They will also be available in electronic format to help clinicians", - Margaryan said. -0-
