Armenia wants to expand cooperation with Microsoft
YEREVAN, September 10. / ARKA /. Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan met today with Pillar Torres, Microsoft’s chief manager for new markets in Central and Eastern Europe, to discuss long-term cooperation in IT sector, the government press office said.
It said the prime minister spoke about the possibility of creating Microsoft Ventures accelerator based on Microsoft Innovation Center in Yerevan and creation of a mobile solutions and development center.
The head of government was quoted as saying that IT sector is one of the fastest growing industries in Armenia. Abrahamyan assured that the government is interested in continuing and expanding cooperation with Microsoft.
Torres, in turn, expressed confidence in the possibilities of expanding bilateral cooperation. She also emphasized the importance of cooperation in the field of intellectual property, protection of citizens' rights and the fight against cybercrime.
The two sides also discussed issues related to the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Armenia and Microsoft.
Microsoft is cooperating with Armenia in the framework of an agreement signed on January 30, 2007 in Edinburgh (Scotland), under which it implements a number of investments, educational and innovative projects here. -0-
