Armenian Eye Care Project and Orange Foundation start free eye care project in Kotayk province
YEREVAN, April 13. /ARKA/. The free eye care program 2015 organized by Orange Foundation and the Armenian Eye Care Project (AECP) has started in Kotayk province. As part of this project 3000 adults and 1500 children have undergone eye screenings already, Orange Armenia said in a press release.
From March 30 till April 4 the Mobile eye hospital visited Yeghvard town, where inhabitants of the town and nearby areas, in need of screenings, eye surgeries and laser treatment, visited the hospital and benefited from free eye care services, it said.
Mobile Eye hospital is currently in Abovyan town, where it will remain till the 18th of April, later heading to Hrazdan town (April 20-May 8). Chairmen of Orange Foundation and Armenian Eye Care Project have visited the Mobile eye hospital to review the current works implemented in Kotayk region.
«Together with our partners, Orange Foundation implements “Bringing Sight to Armenian Eyes” project already for the 5th year in a row. Although more than 67000 people have already benefitted from free of charge quality eye care services, however, unfortunately, there are still many people with sight problems and there is a strong need to continue this project, which we will do” said Francis Gelibter, Chairman of the Board of the Orange Foundation.
“This is already the second visit of Mobile eye hospital to Kotayq, in the frame of our cooperation with Orange Foundation. This year we plan to implement 450 in-depth screenings, 250 laser treatments and surgeries, as well as distribute 270 eye glasses to adults and children. After Kotayk, Mobile eye hospital will head towards Lori region” said Nune Yeghiazaryan, Country Director of the Armenian Eye Care Project.
Last time Mobile eye hospital visited Kotayk region in 2013.
“Bringing Sight to Armenian Eyes” has been implemented by Armenian Eye Care Project since 2003. Since cooperation with Orange Foundation launched in 2011, in the frame of the project more than 51,984 adults and 15,051 children have received eye screenings, 8,961 inhabitants have passed in-depth eye examinations in the mobile eye hospital, 5,209 surgeries and laser treatments have been performed, 23,876 eyeglasses provided and special classes on eye care have been held in 53 regional schools for 4,399 children.
The project has been implemented in 9 regions of Armenia, out of which Kotayk and Lori regions will be covered for the second time this year, while Shirak and Aragatsotn will be visited for the 3rd time by the Mobile eye hospital.-0-
