Armenian Rostelecom joins largest internet exchange centers
YEREVAN, September 3. / ARKA /. GNC-ALFA telecommunications network services operator in Armenia (trading as Rostelecom) has joined two major international Internet Exchange Centers- the Frankfurt-based DE-CIX and Moscow-based MSK-IX, the press service of the company announced today.
More specifically, communication with MSK-IX network is provided through Georgian FOPTNET (Fiber-Optic Telecommunication Network) by means of underwater cable running from Georgian Poti to Russian Novorossiysk, while in the Russian Federation through Rostelecom’s own network.
Communication with DE-CIX network is provided by the Georgian Caucasus Online network by means of underwater cable stretching from Poti to Bulgarian Varna, while in the territory of Europe the communication is provided through the networks of reputable European operators.
GNC-ALFA said it has made investments in getting connected to two international fiber optic systems, operating independently from one another, thereby ensuring geographical and technical independence of its own network.
Through these platforms Rostelecom network is now directly connected to international telecommunication resources, such as France Telecom, TeliaSonera, Telenor, Deutshche Telekom and others and reputable content providing companies - Google, Facebook, e-Bay, Apple and others.
"Through the implementation of successive steps Rostelecom constantly improves and modernizes technological solutions to deliver services to its subscribers and providing a dynamic market demand", GNC-ALFA said in a press release.
Joining international traffic exchange centers is aimed at improving the quality of services provided to corporate clients and ordinary subscribers, as well as at securing the competitive advantages of the company in the Armenian market, it said.
GNC-ALFA began promotion and sale of broadband Internet, IP-TV and a new generation of IP-telephony in Armenia under the brand of Rostelecom from 2012 December. The company’s fiber-optic network covers 80% of the territory of Armenia, extending to more than 2,500 km. The network is connected to the main regional backbones and major traffic exchange sites, as well as international channels via Georgia and Iran.
