Armenian telecommunication operators deny allegations related to 5G conspiracy theory

YEREVAN, May 26. /ARKA/. Armenia’s three mobile communications operators Ucom, Beeline and Viva-MTS issued Monday a joint statement regarding provocative and anti-scientific articles on the 5G network.

In their statement released by the companies’ press offices, the mobile communications providers say that the allegations going around about 5G networks have nothing in common with reality. They say that only 2G, 3G, 4G and 4G + / LTE Advanced networks operate in Armenia, for each of which the Public Services Regulatory Commission provided corresponding frequency bands.

"This information is open and accessible. The re-equipment and expansion are carried out exclusively in networks in 2G, 3G, 4G and 4G + / LTE Advanced," the statement says.

The three Armenian mobile providers, operating with licenses granted by the authorized institutions, urge everybody to refrain from disseminating unverified and scientifically unfounded statements that spread panic among citizens and pose a threat to the property of operator companies.

It is emphasized in the statement that in the situation created due to the coronavirus pandemic, three operators are doing their best to ensure that Armenian subscribers are constantly in touch with their relatives, partners and important people living in different countries of the world, can work online, study and stay home to prevent the spread of the virus.

The companies warn that in the event of further distribution of threatening and provocative statements, they will be forced to turn to law enforcement agencies.

According to media reports, supporters of the "conspiracy theory" in different countries of the world disable 5G mobile towers, believing that they supposedly influence the distribution of COVID-19. Meanwhile, doctors unequivocally claim that no radio waves, including those from 5G communication towers, can propel the spread of coronavirus. COVID-19 infection is spread mainly by airborne droplets, and a contagious route of infection is also likely.

Armenia’s Ucom (Universal Communications) was founded in 2007. Ucom, being one of the leaders in the telecommunications market of Armenia, provides a full range of services in this field: high-speed symmetric internet, IP-television, digital telephony.

"VEON Armenia" CJSC (Beeline trademark) provides fixed and mobile communication services. Since April 2007, Since April 2007, 100% of shares of VEON Armenia CJSC (formerly ArmenTel CJSC) belong to Veon Group, one of the biggest integrated communication operators in the world.

Viva-MTS (MTS Armenia CJSC) has been operating in the Armenian market since 2005. The owner of a 100% stake in the company is Mobile Telesystems OJSC (MTS), the largest mobile operator in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States. --0--
