ArmenTel ready to operate SMSs in Armenian language
YEREVAN, March 20. /ARKA/. ArmenTel is ready to operate short SMSs in Armenian language, Anush Begloyan, the companys press secretary, told ARKA News Agency on Tuesday.
We have no technical problems, she said. Our companys mobile network is ready and can provide the opportunity of sending SMSs in Armenian right now.
The only problem, she said, is that few mobile phones identify Armenian font.
Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, speaking at a regular Cabinet meeting on Thursday, pointed out the necessity to find solution to the problem.
Robert Nazaryan, chairman of Armenian Public Services Regulatory Commission, on his side, said that the matter had already been discussed with Armenias three mobile telecommunication operators ArmenTel, Orange Armenia and VivaCell-MTS and decisions had already been found.
He said that the commission would submit proposals to the government within 15 days.
The commission says there are some Nokia cellular phones in Armenia which recognize Armenian font, but they make up 1 to 2% of all mobile phones in Armenian market.
The ArmenTel CJSC is a subsidiary of Russian VimpelCom (traded as Beeline).
The ArmenTel provides fixed and mobile telecommunication services and a high-speed access to Internet. M.V.-0---
