By late 2018 all high schools in Armenia to have engineering labs – UITE says
YEREVAN, November 17. / ARKA /. By the end of 2018 all high schools in Armenia will have engineering labs, offering software development, microelectronics and telecommunications classes, the Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE) said today. The goal of this project initiated by UITE is to help children develop ‘technological thinking’ and to provide basic engineering knowledge. There are already about 50 engineering clubs operating at schools in Yerevan and beyond it, five of which are equipped with ‘Nairi’ laboratories and by the end of 2018 all the high schools in the country will have such laboratories, UITE says. A Nairi lab was opened last Friday at the Armenian Pedagogical University with the support of Mentor Graphics company to train teachers for engineering labs at schools. The eponymous technology developed by "Nairi" IT consortium allows to learn easily and quickly the basics of programming and designing algorithms for robots and microelectronics. The laboratory includes Arax Armenian operating system, computers "Aigestan" and "Berdzor," three dimensional printers, milling machines, "Agves" software, which is a localized version of Scratch, developed by MIT in the US. Nairi consortium has reached agreements with a number of Armenian technical universities for the establishment of such labs. Nairi consortium is founded by the Union of Information Technology Enterprises, Ayb educational foundation, Artin Varuzhan, Symantec, Pool, Masis companies, Arax operating system’s working group and Instigate Education Center Foundation.-0-
