Cyber security is among Armenian government’s top priority focuses – expert
YEREVAN, November 29. /ARKA/. Cyber security is among the Armenian government’s top priority focuses, Internet Society Armenia Chapter Vice Chair Grigori Saghyan said Tuesday at a news conference held to mark the International Day of Information Protection.
In his words, several commissions have been working throughout more than one year to improve things in cyber security in the country.
Saghyan said there are a few methods in the world practice – cyber security can be ensured by a single governing institution or by several organizations responsible for one separate segment each.
He added that the experience of the United States and other countries with decentralized approach proves its effectiveness.
Armenia is now developing approaches to cyber security, he said, and most important at this stage is to train specialists.
“Some studies show that the training of personnel makes it possible to remove 80% of companies’ vulnerability to cyber attacks,” he said.
Saghyan pointed out four levels of cyber security – personal security, business security, state security and international security. In his words, personal security is most vulnerable.
“The best cyber security in Armenia is seen in the banking sector, since all the banks of the country are subject to the central bank and they comply with the regulator’s data protection demands,” he said.
Saghyan said referring to Kaspersky Lab’s information that 319,000 new viruses emerge every day in the network.
He said everyone can create a virus by using computer technologies – this can be done easily and this requires no special programming knowledge.
“There are several methods to spread viruses in the network, and the easiest of them is to use social engineering,” he said. “This means the usage of people’s soft spots For example, five or ten years ago, a virus called ‘I love you’ emerged in the network. Upon opening the message people immediately caught the virus.” --0---
