EIF to open another technology center in Armenian Kapan
YEREVAN, November 7. /ARKA/. Bagrat Yengibaryan, the director of the "Enterprise Incubator Foundation" (EIF), said today that a new technology center will open in Kapan, the administrative center of the southern Armenian province of Syunik.
"Ten years ago, it seemed impossible, but today we have about 500 IT companies", - Yengibaryan told a news conference at the press center of Novosti-Armenia news agency
"The progress registered by the IT field is obvious - a 25% annual growth, creation of large companies that have not only regional but also global significance," – Yengibaryan said.
He added that a decision was made to use not only the potential of Yerevan, but also of regions of the country, as well as to shift to other areas - engineering, clean technologies, etc. ‘To address these issues, it was decided to create technology centers in the regions of Armenia", - Yengibaryan said.
According to him, the technology center that was opened in late October in Vanadzor was the logical steps on the path of IT development.
"Many were also skeptical about a technology center in Gyumri, but today it hosts more than 25 French, American, Taiwanese and Armenian firms. On average, the Gyumri technology center provides retraining courses to about 1000 people and 200 jobs are created every year, "- Yengibaryan said.
He said next week they will meet with prime minister to discuss a draft project to build a technology center in Kapan.
In fact, he said, Armenia has shown how a small country can shape an innovation environment. "In our country, we created a model that is being today exported to many other countries, such as Montenegro, Moldova, a number of Latin American countries", - he stated. -0-
