Eight companies competing for right to provide digital broadcasting
YEREVAN, May 22. /ARKA/. Armenia’s transport and communications ministry said today it has received proposals fr om eight foreign and local companies as part of a tender announced for introduction and management of overland digital television broadcasting.They are Sav-On-Monolan (the United States), Digital Service (Bulgaria), K-Telecom (Armenia), Harris Communications CIS (Russia), I.S.P.A -SAT (Russia), Nexus Alliance Lim ited (Hong Kong), UCom (Armenia), Armenian Datacom Company (Armenia) and Lans (Armenia).
The proposals will be examined by commission, which will sel ect companies for the next stage of the tender.
In accordance with the government’s concept all the radio and TV companies of the country will shift to digital broadcasting fr om 2015.
Some 18 TV channels and 12 radio stations are planned to broadcast in Yerevan and nine and five respectively in provinces.
The law on transition to digital broadcasting implies creation of a public digital broadcasting network, and this is one of Armenia’s commitments toward European Union. -0---
