Expert: Armenia is naked to growing cyber threats
YEREVAN, February 7. /ARKA/. Armenia is helpless amid the growing cyber threats, Samvel Martirosyan, a cyber security specialist, said Tuesday in Novosti-Armenia Press Center.
“In fact, we found ourselves in a new reality where hacker attacks can inflict a heavy physical and financial damage,” he said. “I think the problem is that Armenia is not prepared for such attacks.”
In his words, infrastructural entities which might become targets for hackers have not been assessed yet and there are no agencies in charge of protection.
“Hacker attacks on infrastructural entities are becoming frequent all over the world, and we are a potential target as well,” he said. “In recent one or two years attacks at high levels began, and cyber criminals are attacking offline systems.”
Martirosyan said that hospitals’ systems were clocked many times in Armenia in 2016.
“In recent days, hackers blocked the doors of a hotel demanding a ransom for freeing people,” he said. “This looks as an absurd until it has adverse effects.”
The expert also pointed out one incident – information from security cameras in an Armenian plant became open for everybody after Azerbaijani hackers’ cyber attack.
The Safer Internet Day declared by Insafe organization in 2004 is marked in Europe every year on the second Tuesday of February. --0----
