Expert says Armenian public at large is indifferent to protection of children’s data
YEREVAN, March 15. /ARKA/. Armenian parents and the public at large are purely informed and indifferent when it comes to the protection of the personal data of children, according to Arshak Gasparyan, head of a department at the Agency for Personal Data Protection of the Ministry of Justice.
"Protection of the personal data of children is very important. According to a public opinion survey, more than 40% of people in Armenia are indifferent to the protection of their personal data and this makes them vulnerable when it comes to protecting of the personal data of children," Gasparyan said. Wednesday during a discussion on the protection of the personal data of children.
In order to raise the level of public awareness on this problem, in early 2017, the Agency released a handbook on the protection of personal data of children, which is available on the official website of the Ministry of Justice.
"One of the problems that our agency faced in this area was the installment of video cameras in some schools in Armenia, which undoubtedly violates the rights of children.. In 2016, we opened 20 administrative cases in relation to those schools in which classes were video-recorded ,’ Gasparyan said.
The second important problem, according to him, is media publications about minors in gross violation of the law.
"The media in their publications should be guided primarily by the principles of observing the interests of children, because publications with the full name of a minor, his/her photo, and information about the place of residence and so on can harm them later," he stressed.
Gasparyan added that the handbook published by the Agency has a separate chapter devoted to the rules of behavior in social networks designed to protect the personal data of children, as well as the responsibility to be borne by people who violate the rules for storing this information. -0--
