Open championship for the design of computer games started in Armenia
YEREVAN, April 11. /ARKA/. Second open championship for the design of computer games started on Wednesday in Armenia and will last till autumn of this year.
The contest which was first organized in 2011 is implemented by the initiative of the Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE) of Armenia in cooperation with the company Orange Armenia aiming at the detection of new talents, development of the sphere of designing computer games and entry to international market.
UITE Executive Director Karen Vardanyan said that the potential of the sphere of computer games is not used in Armenia completely.
“As the number of participants of the first championship, as well as the quality of the submitted projects exceeded all our expectations. Many participants demonstrated a remarkable knowledge in designing computer games. Schoolchildren also participated in the competition”, said Vardanyan on Wednesday in the press-conference.
He said that today in Armenia operate many representation companies on the development of computer games.
“I think that Armenia has a serious potential for the development of game industry. This sphere of business once saved South Korea fr om economic collapse”, he said.
The championship will be conducted in three phases, during which the participants will present their designed computer games or their components. The final competition will be held on October 20, 2012.
CEO Orange Armenia Bruno Duthoit said that the direction of development of computer games has its firm niche in ICT sphere in Armenia.
“This year we paid more attention to the sphere of mobile applications, as it is rather dynamically developing sphere in Armenia”, he said.
The competition will be held in ten nominations – “Best game” (prize – 350 thousand drams), “The best mobile game” (prize – 200 thousand drams), “The best screenplay” (150 thousand drams), “Innovations” (200 thousand drams), “Best graphic design” (150 thousand drams), “ Best social mobile application” (250 thousand drams), “The best entertainment mobile application” (200 thousand drams), “Best mobile game application” (200 thousand drams) and “Junior” – for schoolchildren (100 thousand drams).
Applications for participation in the competition are accepted until September 30, 2012. The teams which will submit applications until April 30 can participate in professional seminars, and also have opportunity to collect more scores via participation in all the phases of the competition.
The competition is held with the support of the companies TX Systems, Triada, Microsoft, Teoken, Sourcio, as well as Association of Modern Technologies Professionals and National professional league on cyber sport.
By the results of the first championship for the design of computer games wh ere participated 25 teams, in nomination “Best game” the winner was recognized three-dimensional game “Ani” (3D shooter) developed by the team Green Circle, the actions of which are taking place in one of historical capitals of Armenia – the city Ani. --0--
