Over 70 teams to race in Hackathon [YAN] contest of innovative ideas and programming in Gyumri
YEREVAN, November 7. /ARKA/. More than 70 teams will take part in Hackathon [YAN] contest of innovative ideas and programming in Gyumri on November 8 and 9, Bagrat Yengibaryan, director of the Enterprise Incubator Foundation, told journalists on Friday.
The competitors will develop their ideas and software demo versions and present them to the jury within 24 hours.
“Some 50 teams competed in Hackathon [YAN] this year in Yerevan, while for the contest in Gyumri more than 70 crews have already submitted their applications,” he said. “Over 400 people from different regions of Armenia are expected to take part in the contest.”
He said no content restrictions are designed for teams this year, and each team will be given full 24 hours to develop its solutions, software, technological ideas, applications, games and innovations and submit them to the Jury’s consideration.
Yengibaryan said that prizes will be awarded to the best crews and commercialization ideas.
He said that the contest will be conducted along with the ArmeniaFTW startup forum of innovations and entrepreneurship, and this will set a good example for teams showing them how to develop projects quickly and how to present them to venture investors.
The aim of Hackathon [YAN] competition is to encourage young people toward putting their ideas into practice.
The forum is organized by the Innovation and Entrepreneurship ArmeniaFTW, Microsoft Innovation Center Armenia, Public Journalism Club, EIF, the Gyumri Technology Center, Microsoft and Philip Morris Armenia, the Armenian government and USAID with the support of the US Embassy in Armenia and EU Office in Yerevan. The general partners of the event are the Swiss Embassy in Armenia, Rostelecom, Sixt Rent a car, MegasportArmenia and Markarian law firm.
In 2011 Microsoft Innovation Center Armenia and Public Journalism Club organized the first Hackathon in Armenia. In 2012 the contest had more than 35 participant teams with projects addressing various issues. All the winner teams were rewarded with monetary prizes, funding opportunities and support. In 2013 Hackathon [YAN] Flight 2013 was held in Zvartnots International airports building and was attended by an unprecedented number of participants and guests.
Hachathon is a Silicon Valley-generated extensive contest aimed at solving existing problems through collaborative computer programming and new technologies. ----0----
