Thieves found and Beeline promises no future failures

YEREVAN, November 19. /ARKA/. ArmenTel (Beeline brand), an Armenian telecommunication operator, has introduced cable infrastructure monitoring systems because of cable-stealing cases that have become frequent, the company's press office reported on Thursday. 

There were several cases of disorders in the company-provided Internet in September and October because of cable stealing from 158 buildings in Yerevan. Some 9 kilometers of fiber optic cable were stolen. As a result, damage amounting to AMD 12 million was inflicted to the company. 

Sergei Khoroshilov, head of the security service of Beeline in Armenia, said the company had taken urgent measures in response to this challenge introducing cable infrastructure monitoring systems. 
In his words, the new technology allows to find out communication infrastructure breaks, identify particular spots with disorders and act immediately.

Thanks to that, on October 27, an offender was caught by the police red-handed right on the scene with the stolen cables. Another wrongdoer was caught two days later as a result of an appropriate interrogation.  

Both men confessed their guilt and are now cooperating with investigators.  
“Now, when the investigation is coming to an end, the company finds it important to reveal details to its FTTB customers and explain causes of disorders in Internet communication,” said Beeline CEO in Armenia Andrey Pyatakhin. “Wehave allocated additional financial resources amounting to millions for urgent recovery of broken down and stolen cables. These investments will allow us to minimize consequences of the wrongdoers' actions, and the new monitoring system will make it possible to react immediately to disorders, breakdowns and thefts.”
