VivaCell-MTS to build 30 new base stations to improve coverage and quality of cellular communications
YEREVAN, September 24. / ARKA /. Armenian mobile operator VivaCell-MTS will build 30 new base stations to improve the coverage and the quality of cellular communications, Gevorg Gevorgyan, head of a Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) unit in charge of telecommunications, said today after the regulator granted VivaCell-MTS a license for the use of additional radio-relay frequencies until November 2019.
Gevorgyan said eight of the new base stations will extend the 3G network coverage to some villages of Armavir, Lori, Ararat and Syunik regions where 2G network is available so far.
According to him, the other 22 base stations will work to improve the quality of cellular communication and increase 3G Internet network.
Gevorgyan said also that after the installment of the new base stations 3G network will be available in 965 towns and villages of Armenia.
"This year the company plans to extend the 2G network to 17 settlements which are not covered at all, and extend also the 3G network to another 36 settlements," said Gevorgyan.
VivaCell-MTS is owned by Russian Mobile TeleSystems (80%) and Lebanese Fattouch Group (20%). ($ 1 - 406.98 drams). -0—
