Yandex launches first panoramic map of Yerevan
YEREVAN, December 1. /ARKA/. Yandex, Russian multinational technology company specializing in Internet-related services and products, has launched the first panoramic map of Yerevan, Yandex.Taxi CEO Tigran Khudaverdyan told a news conference.
In July, Yandex had launched several services in Armenia - Yandex. Maps, Traffic Jams, Navigation and Taxis. According to him, it took Yandex a month to take 12,000 panoramic views of Armenia, including Yerevan, to film and post about 450 kilometers of roads in the Internet.
Khudaverdyan added that the service is very important for ordinary citizens, who can once again see the city, and for the people who have left the city and want to see how it looks now.
"The service is important for tourists as well who want to see where their hotel is located, where to go and etc. Maps, panoramas, traffic jams and navigation are very critical infrastructure services for the country and the city, "- said Khudaverdyan.
The head of Yandex’s cartographic service Nikolai Kalashnikov declined arguments that recording of ordinary citizens’ faces on the panoramic map is violation of human rights, saying the Armenian legislation does not require effacing of passersby’s faces.
"However, we have the technology and can do so at the request of specific users in a few hours. In the event of mass demand, we can do it for all panoramas. This is also done fairly quickly", - he said.
Kalashnikov stressed that all the inscriptions on the map are duplicated in Armenian and English.-0-
