About 66.5% of settlements in Armenia provided with broadband internet - Deputy Minister
YEREVAN, June 6. /ARKA/. About 66.5% of settlements in Armenia are provided with broadband internet, Deputy Minister of High-Tech Industry Avet Poghosyan said at the opening of Connecting the Unconnected: Europe & Beyond summit in Yerevan.
He noted that the government’s plan of actions designed for 2021-2026 calls for ensuring broadband internet access throughout the country.
"At the moment we are moving at a fast pace and 66.5% are already provided with broadband internet, which covers 96% of the population," he said.
Poghosyan specified that small localities with small population, where mostly non-Internet users live, are not provided with broadband internet.
"But these settlements are in the focus of our attention. Regarding border settlements, it is clear that they are also of strategic importance. In this regard, we can say that we have recorded a fairly good performance in this area," he stressed. -0-
