New website to help people with different disabilities find jobs
YEREVAN, September 19. / ARKA /. A website - www.igorc.am - designed specifically for people with different disabilities to help them find jobs was launched today at Novosti international press center in Yerevan.
The website is part of a joint project called "Technological education and work as a means to integrate people with disabilities into society." It was initiated by the Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE), Save the Children charity organization and Instigate Mobile company.
UITE director Karen Vardanyan said at the presentation ceremony that the website contains a lot of information that allows people with disabilities to find a job in the IT field. It also offers an online programming course.
He said visually impaired people or people with musculoskeletal problems, who can not leave their homes, now have the opportunity to get education and gain special skills to look for an IT job.
According to him, this project allows people with disabilities to earn at least 300 thousand drams per month.
The executive director of Save the Children’s LIFE program Jina Sargizova said Armenian legislation is being gradually revised to meet the demands of the people with disabilities. She said many local companies and government agencies are hiring people with various disabilities and this trend is going to increase. She said a greenhouse is set to open in December in the town of Spitak that will hire a lot of disabled people.
She added that the joint project also provides for free training for people with disabilities at local colleges.
According to the National Statistical Service, in 2013 there were officially registered 192,478 disabled people in Armenia. ($ 1 - 40.38 drams).
