Eleventh annual International Microelectronics Olympiad held in Yerevan
YEREVAN, October 21. /ARKA/. The eleventh annual International Microelectronics Olympiad has been held in Yerevan, the press office of VIvaCell-MTS reported on Thursday.
According to the telecommunication company’s press release, the event attracted the record number of participants – 35 contenders from 24 countries, including Argentina, Belarus, Czech Republic, Egypt, Germany and Iran, competed in the final.
Of 896 contenders at the first round, 71 participants were from Armenian universities and IT companies.
The International Microelectronics Olympiad is organized by Synopsys. VivaCell-MTS is the event’s information sponsor. It has provided more than 59 million drams over these seven years for implementation of the project.
“Development of microelectronics, information technology and telecommunications should become a first-priority target for investments,” VivaCell-MTS CEO Ralph Yirikian is quoted in the press release.
“The lack of long-term investments in these areas may have adverse impacts on the country’s fate. Investments in these areas will contribute to formation of competitive advantage.”
The Olympiad is held in two rounds. The first round is conducted in participant countries – tests are offered to contenders, and at the second round contenders have to solve complicated engineering problems.
Gold Medal went to Florin Burcea (Germany), Silver Medal to Yu Chendi (Hong Kong) and Bronze Medal to Amin Meshkat (Iran).
VivaCell-MTS (K-Telecom CJSC), mobile telecommunication company, started operating in Armenia in 2005.
The company’s activity embraces the entire territory of Armenia.
Mobile Telesystems (MTS), the largest mobile telecommunication operator in Russia and the CIS, holds 80% of the company’s shares, and the remaining 20% belong to Lebanese Fattouch Group. ($1 – AMD 474.38). --0---
