ArmenTel and world vision Armenia launch special project to teach children online safety
YEREVAN, March 16. /ARKA/. Armenian telecommunication company ArmenTel (trading as Beeline) and the World Vision Armenia have launched a joint project called "Online Safety of Children," which will be held in Yerevan, Kapan and Talin.
ArmenTel said in a press release that the project is designed to raise the awareness of children, their parents and educators about ways of safe use of Internet. The 12-month project will embrace 600 children and teenagers aged 7-18, as well as 90 parents and 30 teachers.
Zhirayr Edilyan, director of World Vision Armenia programs, said the issue of children’s safety on the Internet is very relevant, as many parents and children are not properly protected there.
"According to our data, 57% of parents and 35% of children are not familiar with the measures that must be taken in case of a threat," he said.
ArmenTel CEO Andrei Pyatakhin noted in turn that the company traditionally pays special attention to projects aimed at the dissemination of computer literacy and knowledge, especially among young people.
"The launch of this project is of great importance to us, as it will allow parents, teachers and, first and foremost, the children, to receive professional support and knowledge on the safe use of Internet resources," Pyatakhin said.
Special training events will be organized for participating children on the rules and mechanisms of security on the Internet. Parents will be informed about the principles of safe use of social networking tools to effectively monitor children's behavior on the Internet and possible risks. The project also provides for special courses for teachers.
ArmenTel is a 100% subsidiary of VimpelCom. It provides fixed and mobile telephony services as well as high-speed Internet. -0-
