Cyber crime threat underestimated in Armenia
YEREVAN, September 28. /ARKA/. Samvel Martirosyan, a media expert, thinks cyber crime threat is underestimated in Armenia.
He said there are no accurate statistical data on that in the country, and therefore nobody in the country understands the gravity of cyber crimes here.
In his words, any in Armenia think that threat comes only from Azerbaijani hackers, who break profiles in social networks, while in fact, far graver crimes happen here, but the population knows nothing about them.
As a rule, Armenian residents don’t appeal to the police when they become victims of cyber criminals.
“Cyber crimes are many among criminal offenses,” Martirosyan said. “Very often people don’t know that a mere hacking of their accounts in the network is a major criminal offense.”
He said that very often hackers break companies’ e-mails in Armenia to transfer large amounts of money, but even in such cases people don’t call the police, since they think that it is impossible to solve such crimes.
The expert said that now hackers in Armenia target mainly banks and businesses.
”E-commerce in Armenia starts developing,” he said. “In these terms the country was not interesting to international cyber criminals before, but now interest in Armenia in Armenia appeared at the world market.”
Martirosyan said that today cyber crimes are politicized very much, and this is a big challenge to Armenia. -0---
