3G network covers 97.7% of Armenia’s territory and 2G 100%
YEREVAN, September 24. /ARKA/. Gevorg Gevorgyan, chief of the Armenian Public Services Regulatory Commission’s division in charge of telecommunications, said Wednesday at the commission’s session that 3G network covers 97.7% of Armenia’s territory, and 2G network 100%.
In his words, today mobile telecommunications are working vigorously to expand the coverage and make services more available, and as a result, 3G network is not available now only in 23 of Armenia’s 1,001 settlements.
VivaCell-MTS accounts for the best results – the company’s 2G network is available in 984 settlements and not available in 17.
ArmenTel provides its 2G service in 853 residential areas leaving 148 settlements without it, and Orange Armenia in 803 against 198 respectively.
VivaCell-MTS has outdone its two rivals also in 3G coverage. Its 3G service is available in 957 residential areas while only 44 settlements do without it.
Orange Armenia came second here providing 773 settlements with its 3G service and leaving 228 without it, while ArmenTel (Beeline brand) accounts for 346 against 655 respectively.
According to the Armenian Public Service Regulatory Commission, all the residential areas of Armenia enjoyed mobile telecommunication services by January 1, 2014. The commission says 8.5% of the country’s residential areas receive services from only one mobile telecommunication operator, 23% from two operators and 68.5% from all the three operators.
ArmenTel (Beeline brand) is fully owned by Russia’s VimpelCom, VivaCell-MTS is a subsidiary of Russia’s Mobile Telesystems (MTS) and Orange Armenia is a subsidiary of France telecom.--0--
