He said 99.5% of Armenia's urban and rural communities are covered now by terrestrial digital broadcasting.
"Digital TV secures television and radio signals of the highest technical quality and better image. Digital TV is different from analog TV first of all by its interactivity," said Amalyan.
He said transition to digital broadcasting will give broadcasters an opportunity to create new, interesting and attractive programs. He believes that Armenian TV companies will quickly adapt to the new technical possibilities and will create interactive programs.
"The viewer will be able to choose what he really wants to watch,; said Amalyan.
Digital television (DTV) is the transmission of audio and video by digitally processed and multiplexed signal, in contrast to the totally analog and channel separated signals used by analog television.
Digital TV can support more than one program in the same channel bandwidth. It is an innovative service that represents the first significant evolution in television technology since color television in the 1950s. All countries are replacing or would replace broadcast analog television with digital television. -0-
